Many of Maine’s leading businesses have their own “house” bands–rock bands made up of company employees who like to jam out somewhere other than the board room. This February MAMM is challenging these groups to participate in the first-annual MAMM SLAM: Business Class – Maine’s Local Business Rock Off!
The bands will have a chance to take the stage and show a panel of local celebrity judges what they’re made of. The groups will each be allowed to play two songs and for an extra fee can hire local “ringer” musicians or MAMM teachers to fill out their bands.
The last group standing in this winner-takes-all battle royale will have a chance to perform at the Maine Academy of Modern Music’s stage at the Old Port Festival in June, 2018!
MAMM SLAM: Business Class will be held on Saturday, February 3 at Portland House of Music & Events (25 Temple St, Portland). The entrance fee is $200 per band and the registration deadline is December 31st.
Bands can register online at www.maineacademyofmodernmusic.org/businessrockoff
Proceeds of this local business rock off will benefit MAMM’s community outreach programs.
In addition to its popular after school programs such as private lessons, ensembles, and its MAMMOTH series, MAMM also provides music education programs to local schools and non-profit organizations, providing hands-on instrument workshops, artist-in-residency programs, private concerts, and ensemble direction to hundreds of students across Maine. Partners include the Long Creek Youth Development Center, Preble Street Teen Center, The REAL School, the Maine Seacoast Mission’s EdGE after school program, and others.
